Make GIF thumbnail either animated or let to choose a static frame

I was uploading an animated GIF and realised the thumbnail is not animated. And I cannot select a frame to preview. Which means preview of my piece will be super boring, since my piece's animation starts kinda blank.

I think an ideal compromise would be to allow us to upload a dedicated thumbnail image. I just uploaded an animation that's mostly 1-bit with the first frame being all black, and my only choice for the thumbnail was a plain black square.

totally understandable!

another approach, but probably also a lot of work needed and might end worse than frame selection in terms of having a consistent and complete UX and introduces issues like what if someone make thumbnails misleading: to be able to upload a separate image as a thumbnail

yes it's intentional that it disabled animation, since i think animated previews are too distracting, and gain unfair attention vs static works.

it would definitely be nicer if you could choose the frame to use, but that would require quite a bit of work, so might not be possible before release
