I think this Gallery would a great idea. Opting-in for critique is also a great solution for beginners to not get discouraged either too. The one thing that would be nice to see is if you are using a palette from lospec, you can find that palette and tag it to your gallery submission. That way palettes could be easily added to your personal list from the gallery as you scroll by ones you like. Last thing is probably having a scaling chart or guidelines for submitting to the gallery so things look crispy. Or idk if the is possible, but letting ppl submit the actual size and the gallery submission scales everything x2/x4/x8 etc

dieselraptor: Scaling for the gallery has already been implemented, you will be expected to upload a 1x version, and it will automatically scale it up (crispfully) to fill the page, plus will have easy zooming controls. Get hypey!

This is excellent idea. Pixeljoint has always been great but it seems the restrictions / standards are starting to slip. Recently I see small pixel art images with thousands of colours, automatic transparencies, and no palette control very often. IMO there is an opening for a more curated gallery with firm (but kind!) criticism and critique to help foster learning. I must admit I miss the old days old Pixeljoint when the members were absolutely brutal with their feedback. It doesn't have to be quite that spartan, but I would love to be part of a community where veteran artists will freely point out my mistakes and help me improve, and likewise I can help out total beginners to continue to cycle.

notdead: I hope this doesn't crush your hype, but we plan to be more open to what we allow in our gallery than pixeljoint. We will have separate categories for the less restrictive techniques, and you'll be able to filter them out, but they'll be around. Submissions wont be rejected based on quality, only that they fit into the correct category.
I agree with you that the old days of brutal feedback on PJ were awesome, especially for learning, but unfortunately those kind of comments, plus the rigid submission standards, turned a lot of people away from PJ. My current idea is to have a checkbox for whether you want to receive critique comments.
My goal is to create a place where everyone [creating low-spec art] feels welcome, but great art is still easy to find, and people can easily improve.
If you have any other ideas to improve the experience let me know!

Lospec: Hi! Thank you for the reply.
It's def. a double edged sword and I also saw a lot of younger people or more easily hurt people driven away by some of the more aggressive criticism, and on more than one occasion I saw it taken too far. I like your idea of "opting-in" to "hard mode;" it could be a nice way to get the best of both worlds.
I think as long as you have the means and desire to make a good gallery system, you'll eventually get there. Try what you feel is right and adjust as needs arise.
I just made a donation now; I'm quite excited to see what you make! Best of luck to you.

I second the more profile functionality. Maybe integrate it with the Gallery somehow?
For your suggestions specifically though, Skeddles is already working on a gallery, and social links are already available- you can see them in Settings.
